The Somalia Revenue Directorate (SRD) is a government agency responsible for collecting taxes and other revenue for the Federal Government of Somalia. The agency was established in 2014 as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen its revenue collection system and improve public financial management.

The SRD is headed by a Director-General who reports to the Minister of Finance. The agency has a staff of over 500 employees, including tax inspectors, auditors, and support staff.

The SRD is responsible for administering various taxes, including income tax, value-added tax (VAT), customs duties, and excise taxes. The agency also collects non-tax revenue, such as fees and charges for government services.

To improve its revenue collection efforts, the SRD has implemented various reforms, including the introduction of electronic tax filing and payment systems, the establishment of taxpayer service centers, and the strengthening of tax audit and enforcement activities.

The SRD has also worked to improve tax compliance among taxpayers through public education and outreach programs. The agency has partnered with business associations and other stakeholders to promote tax compliance and raise awareness of the importance of paying taxes.

Despite these efforts, the SRD faces significant challenges in collecting revenue in Somalia, including a large informal economy, weak tax administration capacity, and security concerns in some areas of the country. The agency continues to work with international partners and other stakeholders to address these challenges and improve its revenue collection efforts.
